Istaren Press
EDITORIAL STANDARDS

How This Publication Works.

Istaren Press operates under the following editorial principles: articles are reviewed by at least one second editor before publication, sources are cited where appropriate, corrections are noted publicly, and writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter.

01 / EDITORIAL PRINCIPLES

Istaren Press is an independent editorial publication focused on everyday wellness practices. The publication is not affiliated with any commercial, governmental, or institutional body.

The editorial framework at Istaren Press is designed to maintain a consistent standard of accuracy, independence, and appropriate qualification. No article claims to offer professional guidance, prescribe outcomes, or generalise from a limited observational base to a universal conclusion.

Articles published on Istaren Press are editorial in nature and reflect the writers' observations on everyday wellness practices. The content is not intended as professional advice, nor as guidance for the management of any specific condition. Readers with specific concerns about their daily routines are encouraged to speak with a qualified wellness professional.

The publication draws on peer-reviewed nutritional research and published sleep studies, selected for editorial relevance and documented rigour. Popularised summaries of research are cross-referenced against primary sources before informing editorial claims.

02 / THE EDITORIAL PROCESS

From Concept to Publication

01

Topic Selection

Topics are identified through one of three routes: an observation from coaching field notes that raises a question not addressed in existing editorial content; a published sleep or nutritional study that carries editorial relevance; or a recurring client enquiry that reflects a broader gap in accessible, non-prescriptive writing. Topics are not selected for search relevance or commercial opportunity.

02

Source Gathering and Assessment

Writers gather primary and secondary sources relevant to the topic. For editorial claims grounded in research, primary sources — published journal articles, peer-reviewed nutritional literature, documented sleep studies — take precedence over secondary summaries. Where secondary sources are referenced, they are cross-checked against the primary study they cite. Source assessment includes recency, sample characteristics, and the degree to which findings have been independently replicated.

03

Drafting and Tone Review

Articles are drafted in an editorial-observational register. Claims are qualified according to the strength of the evidence behind them. Phrases that suggest universal applicability, supported outcomes, or prescriptive directives are identified and revised during drafting. The tone is consistently calibrated to reflect the observational and provisional nature of coaching field notes — not the authoritative voice of a specialist guideline.

04

Second Editorial Review

Every article passes through a second editorial review before publication. The review covers factual accuracy against cited sources, consistency of qualification language, absence of prescriptive or unqualified claims, and appropriateness of tone for the publication's editorial register. Where the second reviewer identifies concerns, the article is returned to the writer for revision before a further review.

05

Disclosure Check

Before publication, writers confirm any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter or framing of evidence. Istaren Press accepts no advertising that conflicts with editorial independence. No sponsored editorial content is published. Where a writer holds a relevant commercial relationship, this is noted in the article header or author biography.

06

Post-Publication Corrections

Corrections identified after publication are noted publicly on the relevant article page. The correction records the nature of the error, the date it was identified, and the revised text. Articles are not silently updated; the correction note accompanies the revised version. Corrections can be submitted by readers to [email protected].

03 / SOURCE STANDARDS

What Counts as a Source

Primary Sources

Peer-reviewed journal articles in sleep science, nutritional research, and chronobiology. These carry the highest editorial weight. Claims drawn from primary sources are qualified by sample size, population, and replication status.

Published government guidance on sleep and nutrition — from bodies such as the NHS or equivalent European and North American authorities — is used as a secondary source, not a primary one, given its generalising function.

Field Observation Notes

Coaching field notes — the accumulated observational records from several years of working with clients on sleep and body composition — are used as an illustrative and orienting resource. They are not treated as evidence in the research sense. Where field observations inform editorial claims, these are qualified explicitly as observational rather than generalisable.

What We Do Not Use

Popular wellness media summaries are not used as sources. Uncited testimonials, brand-funded research, and studies with undisclosed conflicts of interest are excluded. Press releases from commercial wellness organisations are not treated as editorial source material.

AI-generated summaries of research are not used as sources. Where a research summary is cited, the original published study is consulted directly.

Qualification Language

The strength of evidence language used across all articles follows a consistent standard. "Appears to" and "suggests" qualify findings from single studies. "Indicates consistently" or "is documented across multiple published studies" is used only where replication is verifiable. Universal or prescriptive language — "will", "always", "must" — is avoided in evidence-based claims.

04 / INDEPENDENCE

Editorial Independence

Istaren Press accepts no advertising. The publication has no commercial sponsors, no affiliate revenue from product recommendations, and no revenue relationship with any supplement, equipment, or wellness service provider. Editorial decisions are made independently of any financial consideration.

Writers are engaged on the basis of editorial relevance and writing quality. They are asked to disclose any existing commercial relationships before contributing. Where a relationship is disclosed, it is noted in the contributor biography on the relevant article.

The publication does not accept guest articles from commercial wellness organisations, supplement brands, or any entity with a commercial interest in the subject matter being covered.

05 / CONTENT NOTICE

A Note on Content and Its Limits

Articles published on Istaren Press are editorial in nature and reflect the writers' observations on everyday wellness practices. The content is not intended as professional advice, nor as guidance for the management of any specific condition. Readers with specific concerns about their daily routines are encouraged to speak with a qualified wellness professional.

We recommend speaking with a qualified wellness or nutrition professional before introducing any new habit or routine to your daily life, particularly if you have specific dietary requirements.

06 / PROCESS FAQ

Common Questions About Our Process

The typical cycle from accepted draft to publication is two to three weeks. This reflects the time needed for second editorial review, source verification, and any revision cycles. Articles that require substantial revision are returned to the writer before re-entering the review queue.

Yes. Corrections can be submitted to [email protected] with the article title, the specific claim in question, and the basis for the correction (including the primary source if applicable). All corrections are reviewed by the editorial team and, where substantiated, published as a correction note on the article page.

Pitches from qualified contributors are considered on a limited basis. The publication is primarily written by its founding editorial team, but occasional guest contributions from individuals with relevant coaching, nutritional, or sleep-research backgrounds are considered. Commercial pitches are not accepted. Pitches should be sent to [email protected] with a brief description of the proposed topic, the angle, and the contributor's relevant background.

Articles may be updated where significant new published research substantially changes the editorial assessment of a claim. Updates of this kind are noted at the top of the article with the date and nature of the revision, distinguishing them from corrections (which address errors) rather than editorial updates (which reflect new evidence). The original publication date is retained for archival purposes.
